COMING THIS FALL

A Stop Motion Animation Journey for Adults

Personal Myth, Filmmaking, Fine Art Exploration

& Storytelling

October 20th-25th 2024

hosted by OMEGA INSTITUTE, Rhinebeck, NY

Examine the twists and turns
of your life narratives while
trying your hand at this
classic art form.

A personal myth is a story that one creates in order to make sense and meaning out of the world. These myths are formed by our experiences and perceptions in life and are not just fictional fantasy. When we are able to investigate and explore the unique tales that we tell ourselves, we deepen our understanding of our lives and open the door to changing our stories.

This hands-on, stop-motion-animation filmmaking, and art-making workshop offers participants of all levels of experience an opportunity to try their hands at this classic art form, while exploring concepts of self and personal myths. Using the teachings of Carl Jung to inspire the curriculum, filmmakers reflect on their unique life narratives and describe the twists and turns through a series of guided art projects, which will inform the final stop-motion animation projects. Participants engage in writing, drawing, and fine-art-making exercises, as well as learning how to animate.

Over the course of four days, students design and build characters, sets, and set pieces inspired by their personal myths. Next, they bring their visions to life via stop-motion-animation filmmaking using professional grade software “DragonFrame Stop Motion.” Finally, we record voice overs and sound effects.

The finished short films will be edited together so they may be shared in one, collaborative film on our final day at Omega. This finished work of art can be viewed and shared again and again into the future.
